About the Performance
The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen is today considered one of the world’s leading orchestras and is internationally acclaimed for its transparent, intense musicianship and its award-winning interpretations of the German Romantic repertoire. With its combination of chamber music precision and symphonic power, the ensemble has become known for interpretations where structure, sound, and expression interact at the highest level.
This evening, the orchestra is led by Jérémie Rhorer, a conductor with a strong artistic profile and international activity in both opera and symphonic music. His musicianship is characterized by dramatic presence, fidelity to the text, and a clear sense of musical direction, qualities that have made him particularly noted in the Romantic repertoire.
The soloist is Fabian Müller, one of the most prominent pianists of his generation. With technical brilliance, tonal imagination, and a deep commitment to the Classical-Romantic tradition, he is a frequently engaged soloist and a highly esteemed interpreter of Brahms’ piano music.
The program for the evening brings together two monuments from late Romanticism. Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major is a work of symphonic proportions, where the piano and orchestra meet in an equal and richly nuanced interplay. The music moves between powerful weight, lyrical intimacy, and virtuosic energy, with the slow movement’s famous cello solo as a particularly intimate moment.
After the intermission, Peter Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E minor follows – an emotionally charged and dramatically cohesive whole. The recurring fate motif runs throughout the symphony, leading the listener from darkness and doubt to brighter soundscapes and a triumphant finale.
A concert where three strong musical personalities meet in the grand, timeless music of Romanticism.
