Program
Gustav Mahler (1860–1911): Blumine
Richard Strauss (1864–1949): Four Last Songs
Mahler: Symphony No. 4 in G major
Norrköping Symphony Orchestra returns to us with Gustav Mahler’s fantastic, powerful, and emotional music.
First is the beautiful piece Blumine, which was formerly part of Mahler’s First Symphony. The concert concludes with his Fourth Symphony, a consistently bright and lyrical symphony, at times playful, even though death plays its detuned violin in the second movement. In the final movement, we meet tonight’s soloist, world-renowned soprano Miah Persson, who sings about a poor child’s vision of heavenly life.
Between Mahler’s two works, Miah Persson performs Richard Strauss’s “Four Last Songs,” which became his final composition shortly before his death in 1949. All four songs contain texts about farewell and death, yet they remain among the most beautiful orchestral songs ever written. The French conductor Maxime Pascal leads tonight’s program.
The concert is part of Musik i Uppland’s Orchestra Series – Grand Subscription
