About the Performance
STHLM Music and Göta Lejon in Stockholm are hosting a unique venture this fall when the production This is the moment – a historical musical journey in time will premiere on September 5. The popular historian Herman Lindqvist has written the script for a historical odyssey spanning over 2000 years – from the death and suffering of Jesus in (Jesus Christ Superstar) to the Cold War (Chess). Newly written texts that put some of the world’s most beloved musicals in their historical context.
– This is something that neither you nor I have experienced before. I want to show how our most famous musicals are about what really happened; our history. And that there is a common thread running through them all, a thread of dreams and love,” says Herman Lindqvist. “I am the storyteller, the guide who leads the audience through history. They enjoy the best of these musicals and I put them into context.
Herman Lindqvist brings the stories to life on stage, accompanied by an ensemble of some of Sweden’s leading singers performing musical classics; Emmi Christensson, who has had success in the West End production of Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables at Malmö Opera, rock artist Nina Söderquist, who has also had success in London’s West End in the role of Lady of the Lake in Spamalot, musical legend Janne Åström, known from a long series of productions such as Les Misérables, Spelman på taket, Jesus Christ Superstar, etc. and Kalle Leander, an opera tenor who has also competed in the Eurovision Song Contest and is the artistic director of the project.
The concept is the first of its kind in Sweden and combines beloved musical hits with historical texts.
– Since the production is called This is the moment – a historical musical journey in time and I myself have lived through many of the wars and disasters of our time, I am reminded of how everything is happening again. I hope that the audience leaves the theater with a smile, with a feeling that all is not lost, that there is hope for the future, despite everything.
