About the Performance

Britta Virves Trio is one of the most exciting new constellations on the Nordic jazz scene. Led by pianist and composer Britta Virves, the trio moves between the intimate and the expansive – a sonic world where melodic sharpness, rhythmic depth, and improvisational freedom meet in subtle balance. The music is characterized by Britta’s personal and cinematic musical language, where influences from pop, classical music, and modern jazz are woven together into an expression that is both timeless and contemporary.

Since the Grammy-nominated debut Juniper from 2022 featuring guest star Kurt Rosenwinkel, the trio has quickly gained attention for their unique interplay and ability to create a strong, present expression on stage. The trio has performed on stages throughout Europe (Sweden, Estonia, Denmark, Germany, Scotland, Switzerland) and is praised by both audiences and critics for their interplay and integrity.

In 2025, the trio releases their new album Simple Things. The album finds its expression in the trio’s unhindered empathetic virtuosity together with a clarity that speaks directly to the listener. With her regular trio partners Jon Henriksson on bass and Jonas Bäckman on drums, Britta Virves has created a set of sparklingly fresh original music that is both accessible and outward-looking, yet deeply personal. With her Nordic-sounding sensitivity, she explores the love of rhythm and groove to create a captivating blend of drama and introspection.

The concert lasts approximately 90 minutes and is followed by an open jam session. UKK closes at 23.00.
